Anyone who follows us on Instagram knows: work on our farm rarely stands still. We always have more plans than time and hands available – but that’s exactly how this place we dream of takes shape, piece by piece. A quick construction site tour.
A new free-run area for the dogs
The summer’s most important project belongs to the huskies: a free-run area of around 500 square meters on natural ground, where they can romp freely together. We cut the posts ourselves as thin trunks in our own 20-hectare forest and strip the bark ourselves. We don’t do clear-cutting or thinning; we maintain a forest that regenerates on its own. What’s left over becomes firewood.
The free-run area isn’t quite finished yet: we’re waiting for the fence, and that won’t happen this year.
Dry paws, bright winter evenings
The dogs’ kennels are also getting an update: a layer of sand and gravel so their paws stay dry even in the muddy season. Around the back we’re running an electrical cable so we can light the enclosures in winter – up here in the dark season, that makes a real difference.
A cabin for Meike
Our team is growing, and that means we need living space too. For Meike, who guides our Arctic Magic Tours and knows all about snowshoe hiking and whales, we’re building her own small cabin on the farm.
